Dhaulagiri is a Sanskrit word which means White Mountain . This mountain was first climbed by Swiss expedition team in 1960. In the early 1800s, this mountain was first discovered by British surveyor in India . Nevertheless, this mountain remained unknown for the rest of the world till 1949.
The French mount Annapurna expedition got permission to climb either Annapurna or Dhaulagiri in 1950. They decided to climb in Annapurna after the exploration of Dhaulagiri . The Swiss party failed to climb in 1953 and so did the Argentine group after a year.
After the failure of four expedition attempts, the Swiss expedition team with eight members in the team climbed in the summit in 1960. While climbing the mountain, one should go through the twisty route around the peak from the Tukuche over Dhampu pass.
The French route is suitable to summit the peak from the north east route. The expedition was first completed by Swiss Pilatus porter aircraft. The ‘Yeti’ is landed on the north east side of the route, situated at the height of 5977m. At the end of expedition, the plane was crashed near Dhampus pass and the pilot including other walked down to the mountain to Tukuche.

I was trekking on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek in November 2007 together with two friends. It was wonderful getting to know rural Nepal and experiencing the enchanting scenery of the mountains. Ngima Sherpa was our trekking guide. It was his great enthusiasm that made our trip an unforgettable experience! He was reliable, perfectly organised and did far more than the necessary "guiding job": for example getting up in the early hours to run before us to secure accomodation, providing a girl we met on the trek with equipment when her shoes became broken or recommending accomodation in Karthmandu. The daily parts of the trek were well organized with enough time for breaks and to accomodate to the altitude.
