TOURS IN NEPAL (Kathmandu city tour)
Surrounded by green mountain walls with snow capped peaks, the valley is of unequaled splendor. The legends recount that the Kathmandu valley was once a great lake and that Buddhist people believed Manjushiri broached the valley wall with a magical sword, draining the water and creating the Kathmandu valley. The Hindus claim it was Krishna (God of Hindus) who performed the might deed, hurling a thunderbolt to create the Chobar Gorge. The scientists agree that the Kathmandu valley was submerged at one time and the rivers of the valley do indeed flow southwards through the narrow Chobar Gorge.
Kathmandu’s most impressive sight, Durbar Square, is crowded with ancient temples and palaces reflecting the religious and cultural life of the people. It is also home to Kathmandu’s Kumari, or ‘living goddess’, a young girl believed to be a reincarnation of the goddess Durga.
Swoyambhunath temple, also popularly known as monkey temple, is one of the major attractions of Kathmandu valley. It is 3km west from the Kathmandu city. You will notice a large numbers of monkeys around the temple and at the same time you can also observe the valley below as the temple stands in the height.
The stupa of Boudhanath lies eight kilometres east of Kathmandu. This crossal and ancient stupa, one of he biggest in the world, has the all seeing eyes of Lord Buddha. It was built in the fifth century A.D. on an octagonal base inset with prayer wheels.
Situated five kilometres east of Kathmandu on the bank of the sacred Bagmati River, the temple of Lord Shiva is famous for its two-tiered golden roof and silver doors. The area along the bank of the river next to the temple is a designated cremation yard.

I was trekking on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek in November 2007 together with two friends. It was wonderful getting to know rural Nepal and experiencing the enchanting scenery of the mountains. Ngima Sherpa was our trekking guide. It was his great enthusiasm that made our trip an unforgettable experience! He was reliable, perfectly organised and did far more than the necessary "guiding job": for example getting up in the early hours to run before us to secure accomodation, providing a girl we met on the trek with equipment when her shoes became broken or recommending accomodation in Karthmandu. The daily parts of the trek were well organized with enough time for breaks and to accomodate to the altitude.
