This Himal has a triangular shape and its summit forms the western lower slope of mount Machhapuchhre. The mountain possesses two peaks and thus, it is named Machhapuchhre, which in English means ‘Fish Tail’. It is situated in the southern high point of the Annapurna Massif and its great skyline can be seen even from Phewa Lake in Pokhara.
We can enjoy the stunning views of majestic mountains in the central Himalayan.
We descend through the forest and follow the route which is steep and goes down towards the upper Mardi Khola. The white water of Mardi Khola is formed by the ice and snow of Mardi himal. This trek is not often used as a trekking route for it is quite remote too. This expedition takes us through the warm valley and friendly villages. The trail passes through the farm and over bridges.

Day 04: Pokhara and Trek to Mardi Pul [1,050m] This trek begins through the busy trail to Hyenja pass through the periphery of Pokhara and the water irrigation project. This trail is busy trading route. The trail divides as we arrive at original Tibetan refugee camp. We go towards the right side route and it leads us to north across the paddy field. This trail passes along the west bank of the Seti Khola. The trail further drops down at the river.
Day 05: Mardi Pul to Odane Hill [2,510m] After leaving Mardi pul, the trail goes along the east bank of the Mardi upstream and come across the Gurung village. The trail further leads to the route which then becomes steeper. The trail again divides as we move forward. We take right hand fork and it leads past cow sheds. The trail is steep till now but it develops more steeper. Then the trail passes through the Bamboo forest. The rhododendrons are seen on the trail.
Despite the steepness of the route, the ridgeline path offers ever-increasing views of the surrounding country. The path passes through a small clearing, Lalghar Kharka, and continues along a faint track to another clearing marking a high point on the ridge, which is Odane Hill.
Day 06: Odane Hill to Kumai [3,049m] The trek continues along the ridge line. You need to be careful of the false trails that can lead you off track. You are rewarded with the cool mountain air and stunning panorama there. The Annapurna I is on the west side, towering above Annapurna south [7,273m] and Hiunchuli [6,336m], the western bastion guarding the entrance to the Annapurna Sanctuary. You can see spectacular view of mountains such as Annapurna II [7,937m], Annapurna IV [7,525m] and Lamjung Himal [6.986m], like the bulk of a sleeping elephant. You can also see stunning views of Manaslu [8,156m], Peak 29 [7,835m] and Himalchuli [7,540m beyond Marsyangdi. Given that the distant summit snows of Dhaulagiri [8,167m] can also be seen, three of the world’s highest mountains are on view along this trek. Today, we trek for seven hours.
Day 07: Kumai to Khorchon [3,568 m] Leaving Kumai, you continue climbing steeply along the ridgeline to grazing pastures called Khorchon at around 3,568 meters. Today’s trek is quite steep and relatively short.
Day 08: Khorchon to Base Camp [4,100m] This trail now goes across the ridgeline to plateau below the south face of the Mardi Himal and south west ridge of the Machhapuchhre. This is also known as the other sanctuary. We continue the trek to reach at the base camp at an altitude of 4100m.

Day 11: Kumai to Ghachok [1,067m] Today, we descend from Kumai which is relatively hard for weary knees, as much of the altitude gained is lost on the return to the valley. Descending on the ascent route, we reach Odane Hill. Just before the high point , a small track goes left down the east flank of the ridge, dropping steeply to grazing country and a good lunch spot at Hile. Later, the trail further descends more steeply to the prosperous farming village of Ghachok , in the valley of the Seti River . Today we descend for nearly eight hours o reach Ghachok.
Day 12: Ghachok to Pokhara Today is the last part of our trek, as we continue along the direct route crossing the Seti to the east bank and follow the main trail south. I was trekking on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek in November 2007 together with two friends. It was wonderful getting to know rural Nepal and experiencing the enchanting scenery of the mountains. Ngima Sherpa was our trekking guide. It was his great enthusiasm that made our trip an unforgettable experience! He was reliable, perfectly organised and did far more than the necessary "guiding job": for example getting up in the early hours to run before us to secure accomodation, providing a girl we met on the trek with equipment when her shoes became broken or recommending accomodation in Karthmandu. The daily parts of the trek were well organized with enough time for breaks and to accomodate to the altitude.
