Mera Peak (6654m) is the highest permitted trekking) peak of Nepal. It is to the south Everest and dominates the watershed between the heavily wooded valleys of the Hinku and Hongu Dragkas.
The route used then is still the standard route. There are many other routes to the peak, but none of them are easy some of them require crossing very high and difficult passes. This leads to a true mountaineering experience. In the end, all the efforts and hard work is paid off with the spectacular scenery as Mera provides one of the finest viewpoints in Nepal.
Mera peak offers a panoramic view of Chanlang, Kanchenjunga, Makalu and Baruntse in the east and the peaks of Cho-oyu, Amadablum and Kangtega to the west. Everest can be viewed in the north over the massie unclimbed south face of Lhotse and the Nuptse/Lhotse ridge under favourable conditions, it is possible to the peak and descend back on the same day.
Though the ascent doesn’t involve more technicalities from a short pitch unto the summit dome, we still use a rope to avoid crevasses. This is a quite a long day. We come back to Lulka over the Zatra La. You will come to notice stunning view of the south face of the Mera peak while returning. You can’t stop appreciating yourself for this achievement

Day 14: Chatrabu to Lukla and overnight stay in Lodge (2800m). The trail goes over a series of rises and high plateaux before we finally reach the craggy Zatrawa La (4,580m), where we look back on the Hinku wilderness for the last time and the south face of the peak we have just climbed. A gradual descent traverses toward the rocky outcrop of the Zatr Og. Switching over to the north behind this we descend now steeply from the Kalo Himal, the ‘black mountains’, into the rocky slopes and cascading streams of the Sherpa populated Dudh Kosi valley. The high crags give way to forest, where we have lunch in a clearing, then to farmland as we approach the tourist bustle of Lukla (2,850m), our night stop, still high above the river. The village of our outward trek now feels like a metropolis, and a wild party is inevitable. Overnight at Tent

Day 16: Free day in Kathmandu
Day 17: Happy departure.

I was trekking on the Annapurna Base Camp Trek in November 2007 together with two friends. It was wonderful getting to know rural Nepal and experiencing the enchanting scenery of the mountains. Ngima Sherpa was our trekking guide. It was his great enthusiasm that made our trip an unforgettable experience! He was reliable, perfectly organised and did far more than the necessary "guiding job": for example getting up in the early hours to run before us to secure accomodation, providing a girl we met on the trek with equipment when her shoes became broken or recommending accomodation in Karthmandu. The daily parts of the trek were well organized with enough time for breaks and to accomodate to the altitude.
